Simons-White Unveils DFSS/TRIZ Program for Improving
Product Launches and Customer Satisfaction
ANN ARBOR, MI – Simons-White & Associates, Inc.. a business process consulting and training firm headquartered in Ann Arbor, MI, today announced the launch of a new program for improving product launches and customer satisfaction, using Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) concepts and the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ).
The new DFSS/TRIZ program has been developed in conjunction with Dr. Kai Yang, local author and professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit. DFSS/TRIZ empowers participants to implement a series of integrated performance improvement tools geared towards optimizing the product launch process and significantly increasing customer satisfaction
“The present business climate increases the pressure on companies to develop highly reliable products and services at a reduced cost,” says Norma S. Simons, president of Simons-White & Associates and co-developer of the new DFSS/TRIZ program. “Data indicates that approximately 70-80% of the cost and value of a product is driven by the product development process.”
Per Simons, DFSS is a new wave in the application of Six Sigma tools to product development and launch. Simons notes, “Unlike the regular Six Sigma practice, which is mostly focused on process improvement and defect reduction, DFSS focuses on the early stages of the product development process and is a systematic approach to bring customer value, creativity, and Six Sigma quality into the product development process. DFSS has helped many companies greatly improve their sales, market share, and R&D capabilities.”
Simons characterizes TRIZ as “one of the least known but most powerful tools in the DFSS toolkit.” The TRIZ method is based on more than 50 years of research on millions of patents aimed at unlocking the secrets of inventions and technical breakthroughs. “TRIZ introduced many effective tools and methods to offer innovative solutions for difficult problems and bring structured creativity into the product development process,” says Simons.
The new DFSS/TRIZ program adds to over 50 other training and consulting subjects that Simons-White & Associates offers as tools for improving business processes.
